Founded in 1989 the Wayne Interfaith Network is an independent coalition of volunteers from Wayne houses of worship and service organizations.  It provides community services while promoting interfaith friendship, respect and understanding within the greater Wayne area.  The primary purpose of the WIN Food Pantry is to distribute food, cleaning supplies and personal care products to residents of Wayne who are in need.

Aside from its very active food pantry, WIN’s annual community service programs include providing Summer Sneakers and Tees, School Supplies and Back-to-School Clothing Store Vouchers to eligible families with school-age children.  Also, Thanksgiving Baskets are distributed in November which include a frozen turkey and the fixings to prepare a Thanksgiving meal.

Shomrei Torah provides support for WIN on an ongoing basis throughout the year.

Non-perishable food and other basic necessities may be brought to the synagogue and placed in the WIN Collection Chest in the lobby.  During the High Holidays, Shomrei Torah participates in Operation Isaiah — originally a national collection event of the USCJ which was designed to get local congregations to establish a connection with their local food pantries.  Our congregation is specifically asked by WIN to collect paper goods, cleaning and personal care products for this project.

At the community Interfaith Thanksgiving Service, participants from all faiths respond to clergy calls for financial donations which will be turned over to food oriented charities.

The collection is then divided among local, national and international charities including WIN and Mazon:  A Jewish Response to Hunger.

WIN is a 501(c)(3) organization.  Monetary donations are welcome.  For more information visit their web page at www.winfoodpantry.org .

Due to COVID-19 the usual collections and special projects have been cancelled or modified as appropriate.  Shomrei Torah cooperates fully with of all WIN’s COVID-19 protocols and procedures.
